Following from his recent run of good form in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Series, UCD student Simon Jones featured on the podium again this Easter weekend winning the Cat 3 race at the ‘Louisville Crit’ in Louisville, Colorado.
Jones, currently based at the University of Colorado on a year long exchange, took the opportunity to enter the local USA Cycling open event when the club training ride he was due to take part in was cancelled. “I heard about the race the night before and thought I’d give it a go for fun”, said Jones.
“I got away from the main field with a group of three mid-way through the race. That became a solo move when the others got dropped. I was away solo for 15 minutes but when the main field regrouped and started to reel me in I decided to wait for the main field and save my energy for the sprint” added Jones. This proved to be a wise move and the race did end in a bunch sprint with Jones proving stronger than his rivals winning by a bike length.
